How to get the most out of Spot+
Published: May 29, 2026 · Updated: June 5, 2026
Most people open a training app, click around for ten minutes, and quit when the dopamine fades. Spot+ is built to give you something better than a quick hit — real, compounding skill. But like a gym membership, you only get out what you put in the right way. Here’s how to actually get there.
Show up daily — even on bad days
The single biggest lever in Spot+ is the streak. Not because a number next to a flame is magic, but because daily reps are how skill is built. Fifteen focused minutes a day will beat a three-hour binge every single time.
Some days you’ll be tired and play sloppy. Do the reps anyway. The goal isn’t a perfect session — it’s an unbroken chain of imperfect ones. Consistency compounds; intensity burns out. If you want the full argument, we wrote it up in building a study routine that sticks.
Treat the feedback as the point
It’s tempting to chase the green checkmark and move on. Resist that. The score is just a signal — the explanation is where the learning lives.
When you solve a spot, slow down on the feedback. Ask yourself why that answer beat the others. Was it position? Pot odds? The board texture? One important note: the ranges and EV numbers in Spot+ are procedurally generated and approximate — they’re a strong rule of thumb for training, not a solver verdict. Use them to build intuition, not to memorise exact percentages.
Commit before you peek
The trap that quietly kills improvement: glancing at the options, half-guessing, and clicking the one that “feels right.” That’s passive. The whole engine of learning is making a real decision and getting feedback on it — the same loop that makes flashcards work.
So before you click:
- Pick your action out loud (or in your head), and commit to it.
- Name one reason you’d defend it to a friend.
- Then answer, and read why you were right or wrong.
That tiny moment of commitment is what turns a click into a rep.
Mine your mistakes
Your biggest gains are hiding in the spots you got wrong. Most players scroll past those as fast as possible — exactly backwards.
Use the mistakes review on purpose. Keep coming back to the spots that fooled you until your answer is automatic. A leak you face ten times and fix once is worth more than ten spots you already knew. If you’re not sure what your leaks even are, start by tightening the area that costs beginners the most: preflop ranges and position.
Go one concept deep at a time
Spot+ touches a lot of ground — pot odds, board texture, bet sizing, hand reading. Don’t try to absorb all of it at once. Depth beats breadth.
Spend a week thinking mostly about position. The next week, pot odds. Let one idea sink in before chasing the next. A shallow pass over ten concepts fades by Friday; one concept you actually understood stays for good. The Learn section is organised so you can walk through them one at a time.
Use Ace, but use him well
The AI coach, Ace, is there to reason through the logic of the spot in front of you — why a call makes sense, what the bet is trying to accomplish. Ask it “why” and “what if” questions about the current hand.
What it won’t do — by design — is invent ranges or quote exact numbers. It reasons poker logic, it doesn’t read a magic table. Lean on it to understand the thinking, and you’ll start spotting patterns on your own.
Play the long game
A quick reminder on mindset: poker is full of short-term swings, and Spot+ is training, not betting. Don’t judge a session by whether you “felt sharp.” Judge it by whether you showed up and learned one thing. Variance is a learning concept here — see understanding variance — not a reason to grind harder when you’re tired.
Show up daily, commit before you click, study your mistakes, and go deep on one idea at a time. Do that for a few months and you won’t recognise your own game.
